Animal Studies on a Torn Sheet
Two fragments with sketches of quadrupeds, one bearing a rider
Two fragments of a single small sheet, now torn apart and mounted side by side, carry quick pen-and-ink studies of animals. On the left fragment a heavy quadruped, apparently a horse or pack-animal, is sketched from behind with a small human figure seated on its back. The right fragment shows a second bulky, broad-rumped quadruped drawn largely from the rear. The sketches are rapid working notes rather than finished studies.

Pack-animal with a seated rider (left fragment)
A stocky quadruped, most likely a horse or laden pack-animal, is drawn from behind and slightly to the side, its rounded hindquarters and hanging tail summarily indicated. A small human figure sits astride its back. The whole is laid in with loose, rapid pen strokes.
Bulky quadruped seen from the rear (right fragment)
The right-hand fragment carries a second heavy-bodied animal, broad across the rump and viewed mainly from behind, its hind legs and lower body sketched with quick contours. The forms are blocked in rapidly, without finished detail.
