Montage of Grotesque Heads
Numerous caricature profiles assembled across a single sheet
A large sheet is filled with many grotesque heads drawn in reddish-brown ink and arranged in rough rows, several of them evidently cut from separate fragments and mounted together. The caricatures include bald and hooded men and women in profile, faces with jutting jaws, hooked or bulbous noses, sunken mouths and coarse curling hair. Several are paired so that exaggerated profiles confront one another. Together they form a compendium of the exaggerated human types explored as caricature.

Upper row of profile caricatures
The top band presents a series of heads in profile: a snub-nosed man, a hooded figure, a bearded man raising a hand near his mouth, and hooded and cowled heads at the right. Each is exaggerated into a distinct grotesque type.
Confronting grotesque profiles
The central and lower bands set exaggerated profiles face to face: a long-nosed head confronts a squat grinning one, and elsewhere heads with curling hair and heavy jaws are paired. A large curly-haired man and a hooded profile dominate the lower right.
