Red-chalk study of a group of figures
A cluster of draped figures in movement, with faint architecture behind
In red chalk the sheet lays out a loose compositional sketch of several standing and striding figures spread across its middle, some draped and gesturing toward one another. Faint architectural forms and a few smaller distant figures are indicated behind them, and a fainter cluster of forms reappears at the lower edge, suggesting a narrative scene worked out in first thoughts. A numeral reading '69' is inscribed at the upper margin and a collector's monogram stamp appears at the lower right; no text from the bundle accompanies the drawing. The chalk is rubbed and pale, so many contours read only faintly.

Group of standing and striding figures
Several full-length figures occupy the central band of the sheet, some draped and leaning or gesturing toward a stooping figure at the right. Their poses are set down rapidly, with limbs and drapery only summarily indicated. The bodies overlap as though arranged for a crowded scene.
Compositional layout with background architecture
Behind the main figures, faint lines lay in architectural elements and a few smaller distant figures, setting the group within a shallow stage-like space. A second, fainter cluster of forms appears at the lower edge, as if an alternative arrangement. The whole reads as an early compositional idea for a multi-figure narrative.
