The perspective of colours: brightening in proportion to distance

The new chapter states that for one colour placed at various distances and heights, the proportion of its brightenings equals the proportion of the distances from the eye. Conclusion: colour h g e unchanged over distances
If the distance a e is neither double the distance a g nor quadruple a h, it is restored by c d, a half-degree of thick air worth a whole degree of the thinner air above. Thus the purpose is concluded: the colour h g e does not vary through various distances.
The perspective of colours (chapter 199)
Of one same colour placed at various distances and heights, the proportion of its brightenings equals the proportion of the distances each colour has from the eye that sees it. This is the governing rule of colour perspective.
