This index leaf of the Codex Urbinas, headed 'Parte', lists chapter titles with page cross-references ('a car.'), with several bare precepts among them. The entries treat flesh-tones and figures remote from the eye, and why a painted thing appears more in relief than a modelled one, and how to make things seem detached from the wall on which they are painted. A cluster turns to the depiction of the parts of the world and the seasons — the painted wind, the beginning of a rain, and the disposition of a storm of winds and rain. Closing entries treat shadows cast by bridges on their water and the clear or dark images imprinted in clear waters. The leaf bears no drawing, only Melzi's scribal list of headings.

Why painted things read more in relief than modelled ones
Headings ask why, of two things of equal size, the painted one appears larger than the one in relief, why things portrayed from nature do not show the same relief as the natural, and which appears more in relief, the near or the remote. Another treats making things appear detached from the wall on which they are painted.
