The lower half of the page carries a red-chalk mechanism: a linkage of jointed rods and a crank that turns rotary drive into alternating, back-and-forth motion to work saws. Across the top, in pen, is a four-row table of Latin verb endings, a grammatical exercise. Between them a red-chalk note observes that things seen by one and the same eye will sometimes appear large and sometimes small.
