Curved brackets group the segments in pairs, Leonardo's device for marking which parts are set in ratio. The sheet continues the notebook's exercises in dividing a line into proportional parts and comparing the pieces. The figures are in pencil reinforced with pen; the transcription gives the catalogue number 61 with the diagram's letters and numbers.

A line is marked at the points d, h, e and K and set against rows lettered a, g, b, d, h, e. The attached numbers 6, 3, 8, 4 and 9, 12, together with c 3 and f 4, give the lengths of the parts being compared. The repeated letters tie the upper line to the segments beneath it.
