Turning a rectangle into an equal-area square
A pencil quadrature construction after Euclid, sketched faintly on an otherwise blank leaf
The leaf is almost entirely blank, carrying only a faint pencil diagram set low on the page. According to the notebook's own caption it shows the transformation of a rectangle into a square of equal area, a classic Euclidean quadrature exercise. The construction, a rectangle crossed by a curved arc, is barely visible and drawn in soft graphite.

Rectangle transformed into an equivalent square
A rectangular figure is drawn low on the sheet with an arc swung across it, the geometrical means of finding a square equal in area to the rectangle. Only the pencil under-drawing survives, without accompanying text. It belongs to the Euclidean geometry that opens this notebook.
