Plan of a Fortification Gate or Bastion
A symmetrical plan with two round flanking elements and a central circular chamber
The e-Leo caption identifies this inverted page as the plan of a fortification. Leonardo draws a broadly symmetrical figure: two rounded, scroll-like flanking elements at the top curl inward toward a central body whose curved walls are hatched to indicate thickness. At the centre sits a hatched circular chamber, with short straight lines projecting from the base suggesting approaches or spurs.

Symmetrical fortification plan with a central round chamber
The plan is nearly symmetrical about a vertical axis. Two rounded, in-curling forms flank the top like the heads of scrolls, joined to a heavy curved body whose walls are hatched to show their mass. A hatched circle occupies the centre, and short straight strokes run out from the lower edge as if marking walls or approaches.
