A caption identifies these as topographic surveys of the city of Urbino. The sheet carries bird's-eye outlines of polygonal, walled circuits studded with small towers or bastions, each side annotated with a measured distance; the caption directs the reader to follow the survey from the centre of the sheet upward and then clockwise. Columns of bare numbers and two isolated totals (3857 and 949) accompany the plans, and a further route is sketched without numbers. The notes are written upside down and partly sideways relative to the notebook.

Survey of Urbino read clockwise from the centre
The caption records topographic surveys of Urbino, to be read from the centre of the sheet upward and then turning clockwise. The accompanying string of measured distances includes 130 northwest-west, 160 northwest, and 42 a third between north and northwest.
Walled circuits studded with towers
Two or three overlapping polygonal outlines represent the walled perimeter of the town, with small square projections marking towers or bastions at intervals along the walls. Each segment of wall is labelled with its measured length.
