Crossed multiplications and fractional results
The upper blocks set out pairs of terms with a diagonal (cross-multiplication) mark and a running label N, yielding fractional outcomes such as 2/32 and 16/32. Figures 8, 16, 32 and the divisor 4 and 8 recur, showing repeated halving and doubling within the ratios.
Divisions worked from right to left
Along the left margin and in a lower group Leonardo sets down further divisions and their partial products, with figures such as 270, 360, 90, 45, 15, 48 and 33 stacked in short columns. The numbers are grouped as successive divisions read from right to left.
