Three Studies of a Nude Leg
The lower limb drawn three times on blue prepared paper
Three studies of a nude leg are ranged side by side across the sheet, each shown in profile from the hip and buttock down toward the foot, on blue prepared paper worked up with white heightening. The drawings concentrate on the outward swell of the thigh, the knee and the tapering calf, the left-hand study being carried down to the foot set flat on the ground. No text accompanies the studies.

Three profile studies of a leg
The same nude leg is repeated three times across the page, seen from the outer side and modelled with white heightening over the blue ground to describe the rounded muscle of the thigh, the bend of the knee and the swelling of the calf. The leftmost study includes the foot planted flat, while the others break off near the ankle. The repetition points to a study of the limb's contour and fall of light rather than of internal structure.
