Seated Madonna and Child, in brush and wash
A devotional group built up in dense dark wash and black chalk
A seated young woman is shown half-length, her head inclined downward to her left, with a nude child leaning against her lap at the lower left and further nude forms suggested at the right. The group is worked up in dense brush-and-wash and black chalk, with deep shadows massed through the drapery and the ground. The Uffizi collection stamp appears at the lower left. No inscription is included for this sheet.

Seated woman with child
A young woman sits half-length and turns her head down to her left. A chubby nude child leans in at the lower left against her knee, and additional rounded nude forms appear toward the right, giving a devotional mother-and-child composition.
Heavy chiaroscuro modelling
The drapery and background are laid in with dense dark wash and rubbed black chalk, so that the figures emerge from strong shadow. The handling is that of a tonal study of light and shade rather than a linear drawing.
