Madonna and Child
A young mother with the nude infant on her lap, in brown ink and wash
A young woman is shown half-length, her head inclined to her right, seated with a nude infant before her; the child turns his head and raises his right arm. The forms are modelled softly in brown ink and wash, with delicate white highlights on the flesh. The Uffizi collection stamp appears at the lower right. No inscription is included for this sheet.

Mother and nude infant
The young woman sits with the nude child on her lap; he twists toward her and lifts his right arm while she inclines her head over him. The plump body of the infant and the tender exchange of glances give the classic devotional mother-and-child motif.
Soft wash modelling
Flesh and drapery are built up in graded brown wash with fine hatching and touches of heightening on the lit surfaces. The sheet functions as a tonal study of light and shade for a painted composition.
