Three mounted fragments with characterful old men's heads in profile
Three red-chalk (sanguine) fragments mounted side by side, each carrying the study of an aged male head. The left and central heads are drawn as strongly characterised profiles with deeply lined, sunken features, one bare-headed and one wearing a soft cap; the narrow right-hand fragment holds a smaller, more summary head. The sheets are stained and rubbed but the physiognomic drawing remains legible.

Each fragment presents an old man's head studied for its expressive, weathered features: heavy brows, hollow cheeks and a downturned mouth. The chalk is worked to emphasise the modelling of aged skin rather than a specific likeness.
