Veiled Woman in Profile
Finished black-chalk study of a hooded female bust facing left
A carefully finished black-chalk study of a young woman shown in profile facing left, her head and shoulders enveloped in a long veil that falls in soft folds down her back. The face is delicately modelled with fine hatching, and the drapery of the veil is rendered with graduated light and shade. An old inventory number appears at the upper right and a smudged mark lower down; no artist's text is present.

Profile head of a veiled woman
The woman's profile is worked up to a high finish, with softly modelled cheek, lowered eye and a serene expression. A curl of hair escapes at the forehead beneath the veil.
Drapery of the veil in light and shade
The long veil is studied for its fall of folds over the head and shoulders, the chalk graded from deep shadow to reserved highlights. The handling shows an interest in drapery and modelling suited to a painted figure.
