Sheet of Profile Heads and Horse Studies
Grotesque and idealized male profiles crowded together with horses and horses' heads
A sheet densely covered in pen and ink with many profile heads, ranging from idealized youths and bearded elders to sharply grotesque, caricatured faces. Interspersed among the heads are numerous studies of horses, horses' heads, and small mounted or standing figures. A horizontal crease runs across the middle of the leaf, and a collection stamp and an inventory number appear near the lower edge; no accompanying autograph text is transcribed for this page.

Profile heads, ideal and grotesque
The sheet is thick with heads seen in profile, some drawn as handsome youths or dignified bearded old men and others exaggerated into grotesque caricatures with jutting brows, hooked noses, and toothless jaws. They overlap and share the page in no fixed order, as if jotted in rapid succession.
Studies of horses and horses' heads
Scattered among the faces are studies of horses in various attitudes, several isolated horses' heads, and small groups with riders. The animals are sketched quickly, catching the set of the neck, the muzzle, and the movement of the legs.
