Seated Infant Embracing a Small Bear
Pen-and-ink study of a chubby nude child clasping a small animal
A pen-and-ink study, worked over faint underdrawing, shows a plump nude infant seated on the ground and clasping a small bear-like animal to his chest. The child's rounded body, crossed legs and softly modelled face are drawn with looping contours, while the little animal turns its muzzle outward. Repeated outlines and faint pentimenti show the artist searching for the pose, and a collector's stamp appears at the lower right corner.

A chubby nude child sits on the ground with the legs folded, the torso turned slightly and one arm brought across to hold the animal. The soft rounded forms of the belly, limbs and face are built up with looped pen contours, with the pose adjusted through several searching outlines.
Small bear cub held by the child
To the left of the child a small animal resembling a bear cub, with rounded ears and a short muzzle, is clasped against the infant's chest. Its head turns toward the viewer while the body is only lightly indicated.
