The sheet carries three studies of the same crouching, heavily draped figure, seen largely from behind and worked up in pen with dense hatching. Faint traces of underdrawing surround the finished studies, showing the pose being searched out and repositioned. The folds of cloth and the modelling of light and shade over the bent body are the main concern of the sketches. No transcribed text accompanies the drawings.

Kneeling figure studied three times
The same crouching figure is drawn three times across the sheet, seen chiefly from behind and to the side, its weight settled low on bent legs. Ghostly underdrawing around the worked-up studies records earlier trials of the pose. The concern is the outward attitude and turn of the bent body.
Drapery and light-and-shade over the bent body
The cloth wrapping the figure is built up with dense pen hatching that models its folds and the fall of light and shadow across the crouching form. The central and right studies in particular are carried furthest in this shading. The handling reads as preparation for a painted figure.
