Study of a Leg and Foot in Red Chalk
Nude lower leg seen from the side
In red chalk on a warm-toned sheet, the artist studies a nude left leg from just above the knee down to the foot, seen from the outer side. The swell of the calf, the tapering of the shin, and the arch of the foot are traced with a firm contour and light interior modelling. A collector's monogram stamp of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana is stamped at the lower right. No transcribed text accompanies the drawing.

The study follows the outward form of a nude leg: the rounded calf muscle, the long line of the shin, and the ankle resolving into a foot planted flat on the ground. The forms are given in economical red-chalk contours with faint hatching to suggest the muscle. The emphasis is on the visible anatomy of the standing limb rather than internal structure.
