An old man is drawn in bust length in red chalk, his lined face in profile to the right beneath a wide soft beret. The cap, hair and robe are built up in close hatching, and the strong nose, mouth and jaw give the head a marked, characterful expression. The collection stamp of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana appears at the lower right.
