This opening carries dense recipe-style writing in a different, later hand that the critical edition left untranscribed, so its wording is not reported here. The left page bears a drawing of a knife and a slender tube or rod below its columns of text. The right page shows a cauldron set over flames, two standing figures working over a long table, a hatched triangular form, and a cylinder from which fire streams out, in the manner of a burning paper cartridge or firecracker.
