This densely worked leaf is covered with mechanical sketches: coiled springs, toothed wheels and spring-driven devices, together with a scrolled column capital in the upper zone. A short note beside one mechanism explains that a spring gives fire (an acciarino, or fire-striker), while another jotting describes driving reinforced pile-work to close off a deep river at its embankment. Fire-striker (acciarino): the spring gives fire
A short caption labels a small mechanism as an acciarino, noting that here the spring delivers the fire. It records a spring-driven striking device of the kind used to ignite a charge.
Pile-work to close off a deep river
A note explains that to close off a deep river one first sets a spaced pile-work, propped with planking, against the embankment. It is a foundation and river-works memorandum.
Coiled springs and geared wheels
The centre and lower sheet are filled with tightly coiled springs contained in frames, connected to toothed wheels and small pinions. They read as studies of spring-powered gearing.
Scrolled column capital
In the upper-central band Leonardo drew a capital with paired volutes seen in front view. It is an architectural ornament study set among the mechanical sketches.
