Faint sketches and a wheel-driven mechanism (verso)
Sheet invisible before restoration; a partly-inked wheel mechanism at lower left
This verso was invisible before restoration and now shows faint pencil drawings, one of which is partly gone over in pen. At the lower left is a wheel-driven mechanism — catalogued among Leonardo's punching machines — with a large toothed wheel set over a smaller wheel within a frame. Further faint, untranscribed pencil marks and a large stain spread across the upper sheet.

Wheel-driven mechanism gone over in pen
At the lower left a large toothed wheel is mounted over a smaller wheel inside an upright frame, the only element of the sheet finished in ink over the underlying pencil. The e-Leo catalogue places the device among Leonardo's punching machines.
