The Mazzocchio: A Faceted Torus in Perspective
Piece-counts and a method for casting the ring in relief
The sheet is dominated by a large perspectival drawing of a mazzocchio, the ring-shaped, faceted headdress form built up from many small rectangular cells arranged in concentric rings and cross-bands. A note beside it explains that the oblique sides are corrected with five points while the middle band runs parallel, and a small inset shows a single facet-piece. Below, a column of doubling figures and a paragraph reckon how many pieces the model requires: 256 in the rings and 256 in the bands, 512 in all, a count then revised to 2,048. A final passage describes building the ring in relief from glued pasteboard templates bound with thread and filled with molten wax, or cast in lead or printer's type-metal.

Reckoning the number of facet-pieces
A column of figures doubles and combines values (32, 64, 256, 1024, 2048) to work out how many cut pieces the mazzocchio needs. The accompanying text counts 256 pieces in the rings and 256 in the bands, 512 in all, then corrects the total to 2,048.
Casting the ring in relief
To make the mazzocchio in relief, the note directs cutting the pieces from glued pasteboard after the two proper shapes, assembling the papers of each member, binding them with sewing-thread, and pouring in molten wax, or casting them in lead or the metal used for printing type.
