A great fan of ruled lines on a carriage, a lettered cube-root line, and a plunging horse in chalk.
The upper half of the sheet is filled by a large mechanism—cataloged as a firearm mounted on a carriage—from which a great fan of finely ruled lines springs, set against a stepped, toothed beam and a ladder-like stair with numbered gradations. At the lower left a short line lettered 8 a b c carries the note that a b is the cube root of a c. Below, drawn in soft black chalk, is a vigorous study of a rearing or plunging horse; further faint construction lines run across the leaf but are not transcribed.

A broad spray of closely ruled lines fans out from a stepped, notched beam fitted with a ladder-like stair and a small mechanism at the top. The Ambrosiana catalog identifies the machine as a firearm mounted on a carriage.
Plunging horse in chalk
Beneath the machinery a horse is sketched in soft black chalk, its body twisting and legs thrown out in a rearing or falling movement—an energetic animal study distinct from the ink work above.
