By twelve steps of stairs one ascended to the great temple, which measured eight hundred braccia in circuit and was built in an octagonal form; and upon the eight corners rested eight great bases, one and a half braccia high, three thick and six long in their solid part, with the corner in the middle, upon which were founded eight great pilasters. Above the solid of the base they rose for a span of 24 braccia, and at their top were set eight capitals, each of three braccia and six wide. Above these followed architrave, frieze and cornice, four and a half braccia in height, which ran in a straight line from one pilaster to the other, and thus with a circuit of eight hundred braccia enclosed the temple. Between one pilaster and the other, to support that member, were set ten great columns of the height of the pilasters and three braccia thick above the bases, which were one and a half braccia high. One ascended to this temple by twelve steps of stairs; the temple was founded upon the twelfth step in an octagonal figure, and upon each corner rose a great pilaster, and between the pilasters were interposed ten columns of the same height as the pilasters, which rose 28 and a half braccia above the pavement. Above this same height rested architrave, frieze and cornice, which with a length of eight hundred braccia girded the temple, encircling it at one same height. Within this circuit, upon the same floor toward the centre of the temple, for a span of 24 braccia arose the correspondences of the eight corner pilasters and of the columns set on the first faces, and they rose to the same height stated above; and upon such pilasters the continuous architraves returned above the first said pilasters and columns.
