Bombard barrel with ball and powder specifications
A gun barrel holding 36 balls, its muzzle 2/5 the ball's diameter, and an equal-weight powder charge
The sheet shows a long bombard barrel in profile with a moulded muzzle and breech, a gun or throwing engine mounted on a low carriage with an inclined ramp, and a separate detail of the muzzle at lower left. A note above specifies that the barrel holds 36 balls, that its wall at the mouth is 2/5 the diameter of a twelve-pound ball, and that a twelve-pound ball takes a twelve-pound charge of powder. The Codex Atlanticus tags class the sheet under catapults and machines.
