Studies of machinery and a bombard carriage

The sheet is scattered with small mechanical studies: winches, screw presses, geared frames and hoisting gear, together with artillery mountings that the Codex Atlanticus classifies as a bombard and the parts of its carriage. Only brief strings of numbers are transcribed, some added by a later hand. Further untranscribed sketching and faint notation are present across the sheet.

Winches, screw presses and geared frames
Numerous small mechanisms are laid out across the sheet: winding drums and winches, upright screw presses, and framed assemblies of gears and axles, each sketched rapidly in pen. Squared and boxed frameworks appear at right.
Bombard and its carriage
Among the machines are low wheeled mountings and a raised, trestle-like support that the scholarly classification identifies as a bombard and the parts of its gun-carriage (affusto). They are drawn in side elevation with their beds and trunnion supports.
Numeric jottings
Small groups of figures are noted about the sheet, including a row reading 24, 12, 6 and 624, 48, 288, along with further numbers, some in a hand other than Leonardo's.
