Weaving-machine arms passing the shuttle
Notes on arms a and b that fetch, carry and return the shuttle through the warp
The sheet is filled with small sketches of a mechanized weaving or spinning device and two notes describing its action. In the upper note two parts a and b cooperate: a holds the thread still while b goes to strip it from the reel, fix itself inside, carry it, and wait outside the warp until it returns. The lower-right note describes an arm a-b that goes for the shuttle at e, draws it to a and sets it down at c, after which the opposite arm does the same.

Upper figure: parts a and b working the thread and reel
Once a has drawn the thread it must not move from its place; b then goes to find it, strips it of the reel (scola), fixes itself well inside, draws it along, and stops outside the warp until it comes back to strip it of that reel again. The action describes a shuttle- or reel-handling stage in a mechanized loom.
Lower-right figure: arm a-b fetching the shuttle at e
The arm a b goes for the shuttle at e, draws it to a, sets it back at c and there leaves it; the opposite arm then does the same. Two alternating arms are thus described that pass the shuttle back and forth.
