Central vaned rotor between two drums
An hourglass-shaped frame houses a rotor of curved vanes on a central pivot, with drum- or cage-like bodies to either side. Additional smaller mechanisms are sketched across the lower half of the sheet.

A note on the larger drawing labels three arcs a, b and c and states that each is one third of the circle. The circle is thus divided into three equal parts for the segments of the mechanism.
