Casting thin tin plates on a bed of sand
A pierced box, sifted sand, and a scraper to draw the molten metal
The note gives a method for making thin plates of tin. A box, drawn above, has its bottom pierced with many small close-set holes; damp sand is spread over them and levelled with a scraper, then dry sand is sifted on top and scraped again until the surface stays dry. The molten tin is poured into one end and the scraper is drawn gently along the channel down to its foot, forming the plate. A perspective sketch of the pierced box and scraper accompanies the text, while a separate lower drawing shows a weighted mechanism with a toothed wheel that the transcription does not cover.

Method for casting thin tin plates
Molten tin is poured into one end of a sand-filled channel and drawn out flat with a scraper to form a thin plate. The bed is prepared by spreading damp sand over a perforated box bottom, levelling it, then sifting dry sand on top and scraping until the surface remains dry.
The pierced box and scraper
A box whose bottom is pierced with many small close-set holes holds the sand bed, and a scraper (rasiera) is used to level the sand and later to draw the molten tin along the channel. Both the box and the scraper are shown in the upper perspective sketch.
Weighted mechanism with a toothed wheel
A separate device is drawn in the lower half of the sheet: a triangular frame carrying a toothed wheel with cords and hanging rings or weights. It is not addressed by the transcribed text on this page.
