A large war engine drawn in ink: a heavy sprung mechanism held within a braced trestle frame, its central funnel-shaped body slung from a vertical shaft and hooked arm, flanked by two hoppers. Below it a fan of cylindrical launch-arms radiates like the armed rim of a great wheel, with fainter triangulated framing and stepped beams sketched lower down. Sprung catapult engine
The upper drawing shows a large launching engine held in a braced trestle frame, its stored energy centred on a conical body slung beneath a vertical shaft. It belongs to the family of catapults, built to hurl projectiles.
Wheel of launch-arms and release
A radiating arc of cylinders forms the armed rim of a great wheel, and the mechanism is fitted with a trigger-release that lets it discharge. Fainter triangulated framing and stepped beams are sketched below the wheel.
