Foundry notes: firing the mould, setting the core
Baking a thick mould, inserting the core, and casting the piece in one piece within a furnace
Two short captions accompany a row of foundry sketches. The first directs that the thick ('coarse') mould, once almost baked, receive its core (maschio) and then be fired again inside the same mould. A second note written within a drawn furnace states that the object is to be cast 'in one piece'. The surrounding drawings show moulds, furnaces and mechanical parts, in keeping with the metal-casting theme of the sheet.
