On blue-prepared paper, this torn sheet gathers studies of workshop machinery — a silk mill, a glass furnace and a mill for polishing gems — alongside a grinding machine given with the dimensions of its parts in ounces. Memoranda list tasks and materials, and note that cord should be waxed or soaked in linseed oil against water. Gear ratios are worked out (a carriage turning eight times for each turn of an eight-ounce wheel) and columns of arithmetic fill the lower corners. Many further faint mechanical sketches cover the sheet beyond the transcribed notes.

Grinding machine given piece by piece in ounces
A machine for grinding is drawn with the dimensions of its individual pieces: two ounces, half an ounce, then four pieces of one ounce, summing to eight ounces in all. A detail specifies a bolt half an ounce thick and one ounce wide.
Gear ratio: carriage turns eight times per wheel turn
The carriage weighs one ounce and the wheel eight ounces; the carriage will make eight turns for every single turn of the wheel. The whole bench is two-thirds wide, the cogs two ounces each.
Memoranda of mills and workshop tasks
A short list names a silk mill, a glass furnace and a mill for polishing gems, and reminds the writer to learn to make cords in a circle for the throwing-frames.
Reminder about a cap
Two lines record a personal errand: a cap received from the master, and a cap to be given to the mistress.
