Fire in Place of the Solar Mirror
'Burning wood' can do the work of a burning-glass, amid sectioned stands with flames
At the centre of the sheet Leonardo notes that 'burning wood' can perform the office of the solar mirror — that fire can be made to do the work of a concentrating burning-glass. Around the note are drawn tall sectioned uprights with flaming braziers or lamps at their feet, and a coiling flame rises at the foot of the page. Loose numbers accompany the note. Further faint writing on the sheet was not included in the transcription.

Beside a small drawing of a fire Leonardo writes 'burning wood' and remarks that with fire one can perform the office of the solar mirror — fire substituting for the concentrated heat of a burning-glass.
