Two lathes (left)
The left-hand cluster of drawings shows two mechanisms captioned simply 'Lathe. Lathe.' They present alternative designs for a turning device with wheel and bed.
Wheels, cranks and screws throughout
Across the sheet Leonardo sketches the drive elements of these machines — a great toothed or plain wheel, crank handles, and worked screws seen from several angles. The rendering is that of a shop full of related mechanisms rather than a single finished device.
