This crowded sheet gathers machine studies in pen: a large boring machine, a wooden plane shown with its parts labelled, gear-work, screws and a windmill-like head, alongside a regular ten-sided polygon constructed within a circle set inside a square. The transcribed notes name the plane's parts (a, n, m, o, r, q) and a lettered rectangle (a b e d) above the boring machine. The wooden plane and its parts
The central mechanism is a plane shown with its parts lettered: a is the wood to be planed; n the bed that holds the piece; m the hollow where the screw shows; o the rail that supports the plane; r where the cord runs that turns the nuts; and q the last rail.
The large boring machine
To the right, above the large boring machine, a small rectangle is lettered a b e d, with the letters set upside down.
