Clockwork mechanism (sheet turned on its side)
Gear trains and escapement studied on the recto of the Chiaravalle clock sheet
The sheet, drawn with the paper turned onto its side, is filled with clockwork studies in ink and red chalk: interlocking toothed wheels, a suspended weight, and geared trains, together with a small tower or campanile sketched at lower left. The only transcribed content is the pair of numbers 8—16. Several lines of untranscribed text are also present on the sheet.

Train of toothed wheels and driving weight
Meshing gear wheels of several sizes are laid out across the sheet, with a weight hung on a cord at the right to drive the train. The arrangement studies the gearing of a clock movement.

At lower left a slender tower or campanile is sketched, the structure that would house the movement studied above.
