Pupils' Charcoal: A Spoked-Wheel Crank Device

Described in the catalogue as without writing and invisible before restoration, this verso bears charcoal drawings — attributed to Leonardo's pupils in the companion note to f.132v — chief among them a clear two-wheeled crank device: two spoked wheels on a horizontal axle turned by a crank and set on a stand. Fainter charcoal forms, including a pennant-shaped sketch at the upper left and an indistinct figure study, appear around it, together with the show-through of the recto. No writing is present on this side.

Two-wheeled crank device on a stand
The lower centre of the sheet carries a fairly clear charcoal drawing of a mechanism: two spoked wheels mounted on a common horizontal axle, turned by a crank and supported on an angled stand. The drawing continues the pupils' charcoal group that also spans f.132v.
Faint charcoal figure and pennant sketches
Above and to the left are fainter charcoal forms — a pennant- or flag-shaped outline over a cylinder at the upper left and softer, indistinct sketches — consistent with the loose figure exercises of Leonardo's pupils noted for this group of leaves.
