Mechanical apparatus: pulleys, treadle and hand-crank
A sheet of machine studies that bears no writing
Though noted as devoid of writing, the sheet is filled with mechanical drawings. A large curved, hull-like body carries a tripod mast rigged with pulleys and cords; a pair of curved treadle-like pieces lies at the lower left, a small wheel or geared disc sits at the upper right, and a braced timber frame with a hand-crank stands at the lower right. Curved body with tripod mast and pulleys
A tall tripod (A-frame) mast rises from a large curved body and is rigged with pulleys and descending cords, as if to raise or lower a load over the body's edge.
Braced frame with hand-crank
At the lower right a diagonally braced timber frame carries a hand-crank turning a small drum or pinion, read as a winch for hauling or driving.
Treadle-like pedals at the foot
