Geared war machine, a bombard mechanism
Large cranked cogwheel driving a long-armed frame
The transcription records that the sheet bears no writing, but it carries a finished ink drawing of a machine. A large spoked cogwheel with a crank handle meshes with toothed segments on the left and drives a long triangular timber frame that reaches to the right, ending at a pivoting barrel-like tube. The Codex Atlanticus catalogue tags the sheet with bombards and mortars in action.

Geared mechanism for a bombard or mortar
A large spoked wheel fitted with a crank engages toothed segments at the left of the drawing and transmits its motion along a long triangular frame of beams. The frame carries at its far end a pivoting tube resembling a gun barrel; the catalogue associates the sheet with bombards and mortars.
