The bundle labels this bold pen-and-ink sheet a drawing of a large catapult. It shows a heavy timber frame with cross-bracing carrying a great toothed wheel and a broad, springy curved arm, driven through a smaller cogwheel at the lower left and controlled by a vertical ratchet rack on the right. The mechanism is drawn in careful three-dimensional detail as a geared war engine of the type the caption names a catapult.

Great catapult on a braced timber frame
A large war engine stands on a cross-braced timber box-frame. Geared winding train and ratchet rack
The engine is spanned by a gear train: a large crown wheel meshes with a smaller cogwheel at the lower left, while a long vertical rack with regular teeth runs up the right side to hold and release the arm. These are the winding and locking devices of the machine.
