A radial or fan-shaped survey lays out the gates and districts of Milan around an arc, each spoke labelled with a place-name and a distance: Monforte, Renza, Porta Nova, the Naviglio, Vachiara, the Cumasina, Barco, Giove and Vercelli. Below the arc a faint panoramic townscape of a walled city is sketched. The leaf appears to be a preliminary version of the fuller Milan plan on the following folio.

Gates and districts of Milan set around an arc
Around the semicircular arc Leonardo names the principal points of the city and its surroundings with their distances: Monforte 330, Renza 195 and 185, water 362, Nova 475, Strada 100 and 100, then the Naviglio, Vachiara, the Cumasina, Barco, Giove and Vercelli. The layout is a radial survey measuring outward from a centre. It anticipates the measured circular plan of Milan on the verso.
Faint townscape below the survey
Beneath the surveyed arc a low panoramic view of a walled city with towers is lightly drawn across the lower part of the sheet. It reads as a distant skyline rather than a measured plan. The figures are faint and not transcribed in the bundle.
