A dated memorandum by 'Maestro Giovanni' on St Ignatius and the Virgin Mary
Invisible before restoration and bearing the old numbering 195, this verso carries not Leonardo's writing but an interrupted note in another hand. Dated Florence, 17 April 1503, the second day of Easter, and signed by a Maestro Giovanni, then regent at Santa Croce, it records a claim that St Ignatius had written to the Virgin Mary and, on the authority of a writing held authentic by the Church, had received her reply. The rest of the sheet is otherwise blank.

Maestro Giovanni's dated memorandum on St Ignatius
The note is dated Florence, 17 April 1503, the second day of Easter, and signed by Maestro Giovanni, at that time regent at Santa Croce. In it he affirms that St Ignatius wrote to the Virgin Mary and, according to a writing found authentic in the Church, received her reply, a devotional memorandum written in a hand other than Leonardo's.
