Three Ornate Sword-Hilt Designs
Pencil studies of decorative pommels, bound grips and scrolling cross-guards
The e-Leo caption records the sheet as devoid of writing, carrying in pencil the drawing of three sword hilts. Two of the hilts show grips wrapped in woven interlace beneath rounded pommels, with quillons that scroll outward at the cross-guard, while the third rises into an elaborate foliate open-work pommel over a fluted grip. Faint geometric construction lines are visible in the background around the finished designs.

Interlaced-knot pommels and woven grips
Two of the hilts carry grips wrapped in dense woven interlace and knot-work, capped by rounded pommels. Scrolling tendrils curl outward where the grip meets the cross-guard, giving the designs a strongly ornamental, plaited character.
Three decorative sword hilts
Three ornamental sword hilts are drawn in pencil, each with a shaped pommel above a bound grip and a curved cross-guard. The third, at the right, differs from the others in rising into a tall foliate open-work pommel over a fluted, tapering grip.
