The sheet is dominated by faint metalpoint studies of two elaborate staff or mace heads, each with a round medallion boss set in foliate ornament above a slender tapering shaft, with lighter preliminary sketches of the same motif at upper left. At the foot of the page a pen drawing shows a small war engine — a bar-cutter (troncasbarre) built on a triangular frame with a sprung arc. The only transcribed note, written below the machine, names the device 'Fanemollo' and says it 'was born from the lion of Duke Galeazzo'.

A pen sketch at the bottom shows a compact war engine mounted on a triangular frame with a curved sprung arc — a bar-cutting device (troncasbarre). The caption names it 'Fanemollo' and, in Leonardo's playful manner, states that it 'was born from the lion of Duke Galeazzo'.
Two ornate staff or mace heads
Two carefully worked metalpoint drawings occupy the right and centre of the sheet: each a decorative head or finial with a large round medallion boss, foliate scrollwork and a bulbous knop, tapering to a long thin shaft. Fainter trial versions of the ornament appear at upper left. This decorative work is not part of the transcription.
