A mattress-maker's debt, a hydrographic sketch of the Arno, sums, and a grotesque head
A mixed page of jottings written in several orientations. At the top, turned upside down, is a memorandum that Salvadore the mattress-maker, on the Piazza di Sant'Andrea, is to give Francesco a pair of sheets and 50 soldi. Turned onto its side below is a small hydrographic sketch of the Arno with the place-names Montelupo, Settimo, Signa and Ombrone, and elsewhere columns of numbers and sums in lire and soldi. A boldly drawn grotesque head with a winged headdress dominates the middle of the sheet.

Hydrographic sketch of the lower Arno
A small hydrographic sketch, drawn with the sheet turned onto its left side, is labelled with the places along the Arno: [Mon]telupo, Settimo, Signa and Ombrone.
Columns of figures and sums
Numbers and arithmetic operations are worked out on the sheet, including a running total of 27908, alongside a further set of computations in lire and soldi ending at lire 36 soldi 5.
Grotesque head with winged headdress
A vigorously drawn grotesque head, mouth open and wearing a winged headdress, occupies the centre of the sheet. It is a caricatural figure study set among the accounts and jottings.
