Decorative and Indeterminate Sketches
Red-chalk studies of an interlaced knot, foliate scrollwork, and corner joints
In red chalk the leaf carries a scatter of decorative and unresolved sketches, described as ornamental or indeterminate designs. At the right an interlaced knot is worked out, while the lower half develops a curling foliate scroll of acanthus-like leaves and spirals; two smaller studies at the top resemble corner joints or brackets. No accompanying text was transcribed for the page.

Interlaced knot and foliate scrollwork
A looping interlace knot is drawn at the upper right, and the lower half of the sheet is filled with a curling foliate scroll of acanthus-like leaves and spirals. The motifs are sketched freely in red chalk as decorative studies.
