The opening leaf is a working page of arithmetic: short columns of figures set down in pen and in red chalk, one group written upside-down. The transcription records only these numbers; around them the page carries faint, indeterminate red-chalk sketches (including a graduated scale-like line and curved forms) and a few stray letters and a word that were not transcribed. Further untranscribed jottings are visibly present on the sheet.
